The song that I chose to write about is â€Å"‘Ka Moa`e† and it means â€Å"The Tradewinds†. I chose this song because ever since I was young I loved the Big Island, and it reminds me of how much I miss it there. I like the line that explains the excitement of being thrilled by a loves voice. In Hawaiian the line says â€Å"Ilihia ho`i au a i ko leo, I ka pane `ana mai me ka nahenahe.† Translated in English it means â€Å"I will be thrilled by your voice, And your soft answers. The fifth and sixth verses say that he does not want her to forget about their love for each other (the flowers). He says that they will be together again and when they are, it will be a blessing like nights with fine rain. In the seventh and eighth verses he explains how happy he is going to be when he gets to hear her wonderful, soft voice. And he wants her to know that whatever he’s doing, he will be there for her and if she needs him he will be there for her no matter what. The ninth and tenth verses say that their love is united by sweetness and she’s his sweetheart of the seas of Kona with the dew of Ma‘ihi, so she must live in Kona by Ma‘ihi Bay. The final verse says for his love, the sweetheart on the quiet seas of Kona, to tell their story. This song is a simple love song about how much a man misses the woman that he loves and how happy he will be when they will be able to be with each other again. An interesting fact that caught my attention is that he used the lei as a representation of the love he had for his woman. It’s cute that he used that as a point of view. After doing the seven habits profile, I see that I am scatter all over the place. For instants my emotions, and life are, very good and outstanding. I look at that as saying that I have a great perception on how my life plays out, but may run into some problems down the road, because my emotions can get in the way. The reason my emotions will play a big factor into my is, I don’t put myself in other people shoes, always wanting others to understand me but not wanting to understand were they might be coming from. The Loss Of Innocence Innocence is such a precious gift. For those who do not know what exactly innocence is, the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines innocence as, ?freedom from guilt or sin through being unacquainted with evil.? When do humans in general have little or no guilt and worries? In the days of our youth, everything is much simpler. Remember never going to work, paying bills, supporting a family, and doing all the other things that is expected from an adult? All children worry about is having a good time. Children take almost nothing seriously. They can care less about women, popularity, money, or the future. Some people however, feel that innocence is the worst time of anyone's life. This brings up the question whether or not innocence is important in life or not. Although it seems as if decisions and events made during a person's childhood are totally irrelevant towards the rest of his/her life, these factors make a tremendous impact on the type of adult a person becomes. For example, it is commonly known that most children who had abusive parents have grown up to be just the same. If a child had very loving and caring parents, chances are the child will grow to be very loving towards his/her children. A child doesn't know any better during the stage of innocence and is unable to reasonably distinguish the differences between right and wrong. The child who abuses his kids as an adult was brought up that way himself. In his own mind, he feels this is the right way to discipline his children. This shows that innocence does play an important part in everyone's life. Just imagine never having to worry about anything, having a guilt free mind, and being able to do just about anything that can not be done as adults. Holden Caufeild from the book The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger, wishes innocence was never lost. To Holden, the perfect example of innocence is his little sister Phoebe. Phoebe has absolutely no hatred towards anyone or anything, as well as no worries. Holden wants to save this kind of innocence from being lost in the transition from childhood to adulthood. What would the world be like if innocence were never lost? One way it would benefit humanity is the lack of hatred among the world. During youth, their may be an occasional argument of some sort, maybe even a little physical fight, but nothing like firing a handgun at a fellow human being. Children are blind towards the race and ethnicity of others. A kid will hang out with another kid no matter what, it is the lack of innocence and the ignorance we learn from adults that manipulate children otherwise. Think of all the things that the human race can achieve if we all put our minds together. Another way keeping innocence alive would benefit humanity is the constant craving for fun and adventure. As adults, people have very little if any time at all do things that they enjoy. The adventurous mind is lost in time with the responsibilities that are bestowed upon adults. Once again, if innocence were kept alive, these ambitions would never depart from our lives. As adult's people also have more freedom to go places and to do certain things, making it easier to do the things, which they wanted to but could not do during childhood. Who wouldn't want to live in a world were having fun was always the main priority of life? Some people actually despise the idea of innocence lasting for all eternity. They do believe that innocence is probably the greatest time of anyone's life. They do however, feel that the lack of organization and mental capacity of those without innocence would have a tremendously devastating impact on society in general. The term imperialism is almost exclusively associated with colonial exploits of major European powers such as Britain, France and Germany in the West; and China and Japan in the East. Although a late joiner of the imperial club, the United States is by far the most dominant in this group. With the entity called the United States of America having emerged only toward the end of the eighteenth century, it was only in the subsequent centuries it meaningfully expressed its imperial goals. The perception of the United States as an imperialist state was first mooted in the early part of the nineteenth century and the outbreak of the Spanish-American war in 1898 confirmed this fact. Indeed, the final years of the 19th century saw the peaking of American imperialist aggression as it occupied Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippine Islands – the latter two eventually becoming American colonies. (Len s Zinn, 2003) The early indicators of imperialist tendency can be found in the founding documents of the country. Even luminaries such as Thomas Jefferson have articulated an imperialist vision for the United States in no unclear terms. The annexation of Louisiana in the eighteenth century is seen as the first act of this vision. During the nineteenth century, the U.S.’ foreign policy was largely confined to the American continent, with Central and Southern American regions being focal points. As is typical of imperialist propaganda, convoluted justifications were given for aggressive foreign policy. It was stated that lands of ‘semi-civilized’ and ‘primitive’ peoples were occupied in order to bring Western civilization (which is supposedly superior) to these lands. Empire expansion was also projected as benign and compassionate, for Christian missionary work was invariably associated with it. Propaganda also had it that the standards of living of subjects o f the empire will eventually rise. On the whole, imperialist enterprise was promoted using these vapid and empty slogans and motives. There was also a thriving working class press, which articulated the concerns and preoccupations of newly arriving immigrants and ethnic minorities. But eventually, dissenting voices would be marginalized or disregarded, as the nation marched ahead with its imperialist vision. As the new century ushered and geo-political power equations changed, America seized its moment to emerge as a global superpower. American involvement in WWI was minimal as it saw the war as a dispute internal to Europe. But with Hitler’s Third Reich threatening to m onopolize power, United States was forced to ally with Britain and Russia to defeat Axis powers. CFC stands for Chlorofluorocarbons which are found in many of the aerosol spray cans. In December of 1973, Rowland and Molina discovered that CFCs can destroy the ozone in the stratosphere. In June 1975, the Natural Resources Defence Council (NRDC) sued the Consumers Product Safety Commission for a band of CFCs used in aerosol spray cans. United States's fifth largest manufacturers of aerosol sprays announced that they will reduce the amount of CFCs used in there products. But as things started to get better, The Consumer Product Safety Commission rejected NRDC's law suit in July stating that there was insufficient evidence towards the amount of harm the CFCs were doing to the ozone layer. On September 1976, a report was released which re-enforced Rowland and Molina's hypothesis, but also stated that the govern- ment action on CFC regulations should be postponed. This report also stated that the CFCs can initiate climatic changes and contribute to the warming of the earth's atmosphere, i.e., the greenhouse effect. May 1977, several government agencies announced joint plans to limit, but not eliminate uses of CFCs in aerosol spray cans. But on February of the following year, the government decided to postpone the regulations on CFCs used in refrigeration, air conditioning, solvents, and other industrial processes.
